Why Kindy Drop-Off Feels Like the Morning After a Two-Day Bender.

You’ve arrived, but flustered and tired.

Probably partially dressed, or at best, under-dressed.

The trackies you panic-bought in 2018 are now, accidentally, part of your identity.

The kids were shouting while you tried to leave.

Your tinted moisturiser you applied in the car is visibly collecting around your nose.

You thought waking at 5:30 with the kids would buy you time, but somehow it’s now 8:45 and you’re fake-smiling your way into a full room.

The room is split.

About 70% look like they’ve emotionally survived a decent bender over the last 48.

The other 30% are in their wellness / “non miserable mum” era.

It's not a hangover babe, it just your life.
It's not a hangover babe, it just your life.

Don’t get me wrong — they’re still just as cooked as you.

They’re just hotter about it.

Their morning consisted of a shower, a coffee and a full GRWM sesh that you haven't had time for since COVID...all because their husband bought Bitcoin in 2014 and the au pair stepped in at 6.

They laugh loudly and carefree and ask:“Do you want to grab a coffee after this?”

But unfortunately you’re already pencilled into your own calendar for a complete mental breakdown by 11.

So you smile and say:“Mondays are a bit crazy for me.”

You promise yourself next week will be different.

You’ll get dressed properly.

Maybe Botox.

Potentially a spray tan.

Then your algorithm starts shifting with your mental state: peptides, new face and teeth in Turkey, Kris Jenner.

And suddenly you’re spiralling wondering where exactly everyone got the memo, money & time.

But the saving grace....and nobody openly says this — is the comfort people.

Usually the ones not originally from here.

Or the unbothered 'i've already made it / got nothing to prove' crowd.

The ones with no social paranoia.

The ones openly wearing trackies at school drop-off because they’ve accepted their fate.

And then there’s the older parents.

The post-40 crowd.

God they look tired, and honestly, fair enough.

While I was watching Avicii drop Levels at Tomorrowland, they were already adults with investment portfolios and an early morning F45 sesh.

But one day and hopefully not too long (but probably years from now), you know you’ll emerge from this version of yourself.

You’ll be put together.

Witty.

Helpful.

One of those women who somehow remembers library day or becomes class rep.

But until then, it’s after-party energy at 8:43am: unshowered, rushed, slightly hiding from everyone.

And honestly?

Thank God for Instagram.

At least they can deep-dive your grid later and see who you really are.

Nobody says it. Everybody sees it.
